Dayak Community website celebrates 1st anniversary (Malaysian Today Jun 2004)

Kuching : One of the biggest and most popular websites for the Dayak community, the rumahpanjai.com, recently celebrated its first anniversary at the Kuching Park Hotel here yesterday.

Its Founder and also webmaster Oswald, said the website founded on May 25 last year in Penang was simply aimed at creating a close network via Information Communication Technology (ICT) among his friends, family members and relatives who lived in different states, cities and towns in the country.

“Since I’m working in Penang and also living far away from my friends, family and relatives in the state, I just came out with an idea of communicating with them via the website,” he said, adding that it contains a chat channel, email and other features.

Several months after its launch on the World Wide Web (www), the rumahpanjai.com website caught the attention of the Dayak community outside his circuit of friends, family members and relatives.

Oswald said he was caught by surprise to see that the Dayak communities outside his original group also visited the site and some of them registered themselves as members.

“Presently, rumahpanjai.com has about 1,200 members from different background – from professionals to students from throughout the country and from around the world,” he said, when interviewed after the anniversary celebration.

Asked about financing for the website, he said that since its inception he had financed the website himself.

“From my own pocket money (salary),“ said Oswald, who currently works as government servant in Penang.

“Although, I’m financing the website with my own money, I’m happy to see the website has fulfilled its objective of uniting the Dayak Community from this country and around the world,” he concluded.
